The Allman Brothers Band: Where It All Begins
By James on Oct 22, 2008 in Southern Rock
I have been an Allman Bros. Band fan for some time now. I try and find an album that I don’t have and pick it up any time I have a little spare change. The last one that I picked up was Where It All Begins and I have been listening to it a lot lately. I really enjoy the driving rhythms and how the band just flows with the instruments harmoniously combining to make a sound that is at times slow and sweet and other times driving and rough. This is Southern Rock at its best with a great band. This album was the fourth effort after many years apart and is a fine example of a older band making a astounding comeback. I have no idea if The Allman Brothers band will ever be a commercial success in the eyes of record labels again but I do know that they can put out some great albums when they want to that are musically and lyrically sound. Do yourself a favor and pick this album up, I know I haven’t regretted it and for the price that they are offering it for on Amazon you can’t beat it.

I love the picture of (I know it’s from a Youtube video embedded link), you know who, the guy playing the keyboards!
I don’t know if you know this, but that big brown box is called a Leslie Amplifier. There are speakers (bass and treble)inside it that spin around and the dept of that speed can be controlled my the keyboardist. BTW, if your a guitar player looking at this post, plug your axe into one and be prepared to have your mind blow away!
Nice site

Allman Brothers may be the greatest southern rock band. They have a fine pair of guitar players, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. I have a review of Derek Trucks latest album without the Brothers at Rock n Roll View

I have always been a fan of the surviving Allmon Brother. He spent many years, not only as a fine guitarist in his own right, but perfecting his vocal techniques.
Then of course, the slide guitars that they have penetrating every phase of their music is sort of musical magic. Gregg was the best, but those who followed are certainly geniuses in their own right.
The pieces are obviously always well rehearsed and fully coherently arranged pieces.
The Allman Brothers never lose control of their music.
I love them.
