Whitey Morgan and the 78’s
By James on Nov 21, 2008 in Country
Looking for some good country? Needing a little outlaw country to get your day started or maybe to end the day with while putting down a few adult beverages? Well Whitey Morgan and the 78’s is your ticket. With today’s country resembling bubblegum pop more and more this album brings a nostalgic feeling while also being fresh. Listening to them will remind you of Waylon and other outlaw country artist. Just listen to the song Honky Tonk Angel and tell me I am lying. Personally this is the best country I have listened to in a while. The bad thing is without a ton of promotion by the big music labels you will probably not get to hear them on commercial radio. You may be able to hear them on Outlaw Country (Sirius) but I am not sure.
Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels was released 23 September 2008 and features 12 tracks. One track that I know is a cover is I’m on Fire (Bruce Springsteen) and they did a good job, I kind of like it better than the original. I can’t be certain if any of the other songs are covers but I can tell you that I love this whole album.
If it wouldn’t have been for the free track from eMusic though I probably never would have heard of them. So let this album be 11 of your 50 free songs by joining eMusic today by using the banner in the sidebar of this website. I will leave you with a youtube clip for your enjoyment and thanks for reading JT Music Review.

Whitey Morgan and the 78’s are the best darn thing to happen within country music since Waylon died. I know he’d be damn proud. If you haven’t seen them live, well boys, you should. Just don’t try and out drink em’..I’ve learned the hard way, many, many, times.

Looks good to me.. I´ll look them up later on tonight. I love country music, but I haven´t heard much modern country if you know what I mean.. I like Leann Rimes - she does a pretty mean country song and does good covers too. I think covers are very important. We all love the oldies, so why not hear the re-vamped oldies?

It´s a shame because a lot of unheard bands are really VERY good. My cousin plays in a band.. and I´m not just saying this because he´s my cousin.. they could really do well in the music business! But no one is ever going to find them!! I make sure I go to all of their gigs and they do try their best to be noticed.. it just doesn´t work out that way for everyone! They definately are going the right way about it though!! Country music is dying out.. we need to save it!!!!

This is the first time that I have listened to country music. Yes, I’m guilty of belonging to people who are content to listen to canned music–or pop songs aired regularly. Thanks for sharing the interesting info about Whitey Morgan and company. They’re simply awesome.

You can buy Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels on iTunes and at most major retailers. Also, at www.whiteymorgan.com.
These guys aren’t just the best thing to happen to country in recent years, their the hardest working and greatest group of guys I know. I’m honored to be a part of their extended family.
Grew up a punk rock girl, but Whitey and the boys brought out the country outlaw in my heart.

Oh, and p.s. Have no fear, fans! the 78’s were featured on an episode of Jackass on MTV a few months ago, they’re making a helluva a splash in Nashville and Texas and have played with many greats recently. They have opened for David Allen Coe a total of 3 or 4 times now, just played Waylon’s Birthday Bash alongside his son Shooter, and Fred Newell (Waylon’s old steel picker) even played on this album. I have all the faith in the world that they’re going to be taking the world by storm here any minute.

It’s great to hear that Whitey and the 78’s are converting people to authentic outlaw music! I tell everyone i know about these guys. I go to live show’s at least 300 night’s a year, and i will say that there are very few bands that can play as tight as these guys do. Big things are happening for them, and they deserve it!

Hey,
I just wrote an article about the places from where you can download free legal jazz mp3`s. If You`d ever think that you will write an article about that subject then check it out. Probably oldschool jazz fans know most of these but i`m sure that there are some gems.

Sadly, jtmusicreview has been removed from our grad school preferred blog list.
I say sadly because our grad students very much enjoyed the articles you have on the blog.
Most bloggers don’t label as spam our grad student comments because they are definitely not spam.
However, unless you have specifically blocked ToysPeriod (one of our scholarship providers) as a website, Akismet has made the decision for you and blocked non-spam items.
That is happening on all blogs with the Akismet plug in, forcing the College to ban WordPress for the purpose of grad courses, including this site.
If you would like to be included on the College’s white hat list once again, just drop me a line at avoisin@lindachristas.org, and I will once again list you as a preferred grad student destination.
If Akismet is blocking things that you haven’t designated as spam, you can contact them for remedy at Alex Shiel support@akismet.com or Matt Mullenweg at matt@mullenweb.com. Blocking spam is one thing. However, when valuable messages from people who you have worked to attract to your message are also being blocked, the potential customer, client, fan or in this case, grad student, just won’t return.
When Akismet boasts of spam exclusion, unfortunately, up to 30% of all messages blocked are not spam.
Hope to hear from you, so that we can reinstate jtmusicreview
